For the sauce:
2 tsp olive oil
1 lb ground beef ( I use 90% lean )
1 lb mild Italian sausage ( casings removed )
1/2 cup onion ( finely chopped )
2 tsp garlic ( minced )
24 ounce jar marinara sauce
8 ounce can tomato sauce
salt and pepper to taste
For the ricotta mixture:
15 ounces cottage cheese
1 egg
1/2 cup Parmesan cheese ( grated )
3/4 tsp Italian seasoning
1/2 tsp salt
1/4 tsp pepper
1 cup mozzarella cheese ( shredded )
For assembly:
16 ounces ziti pasta ( cooked according to package directions )
2 cups mozzarella cheese ( shredded )
2 tbsp chopped parsley
