Rich and creamy hot chocolate recipe with a simple homemade caramel sauce!

For the Caramel Sauce
4 Tbsp butter
1 cup firmly packed brown sugar
1/2 cup half-and-half or whipping cream
Dash of salt
1 Tbsp vanilla
For the Hot Chocolate
2 cups whole milk
1/2 cup semi sweet or bittersweet chocolate chips
1/2 cup caramel sauce, recipe above*
Whipped Cream or marshmallows for topping
