1 tablespoon sugar

1 pound freshly ground chuck, (80/20)
1 tablespoon onion powder
1 teaspoon garlic powder
2 tablespoons worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon ketchup
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper
8 thick slices deli-counter American cheese
8 thick slices sourdough bread
½ cup thousand island dressing
2 tablespoons unsalted butter ( divided )

In a large skillet, melt the 2 tablespoons butter over medium heat. Add the onions and stir to coat with the melted butter. Stir in the sugar. Cover and allow to steam for 10 - 12 minutes.
