Fluffiest Challah Bread (aka Swiss Zopf)

Have you ever made homemade Challah bread? It's a challenge, but so worth it. The ingredient list is pretty short and simple, and once you get the hang of the technique it's easy to put together. This is not a traditional Jewish recipe, but an authentic Swiss Zopf. The slightly sweet braid is perfect for breakfast and brunch, you can shape it into one big loaf or into small rolls.

1/2 stick butter
1 1/4 cups whole milk
2 tablespoons fine caster sugar
1 packet dry active yeast
4 cups all-purpose flour
1 1/2 teaspoons fine sea salt
1 egg beaten
