Gooey Rocky Road Brownies

I love brownies from the box, which is why I rarely make them homemade. But growing up, we ate only this recipe. And let me tell you...these give the boxed brownies a run for their money. Sure, they take a little longer to whip up, but boy are they worth it. They're soft and nutty, ooey, gooey, chocolate-y, and just plain perfect! This makes a large cookie sheet-size, but you can half the recipe and it will fit in a cake pan.

3 cups flour
3 cups sugar
1 cup natural unsweetened (baking) cocoa
2 t. salt
2 c. shortening
8 eggs
4 t. vanilla
Chopped walnuts (I hesitate to say optional, because they're SO much better with them!)
2 bags Marshmallows

CHOCOLATE BUTTERCREAM FROSTING:

1/2 cup butter
3 1/2 cups powdered sugar
1 t. vanilla
2 heaping spoonfuls of natural unsweetened cocoa (I love Hershey's)
Add just a little milk at a time and mix until it is a creamy consistency, perfect for frosting!
Cream sugar, shortening, eggs, and vanilla. In a separate bowl, stir together flour, cocoa and salt. Add dry ingredients to wet and mix until combined. Stir in nuts. Bake on 350 degrees for around 25...
