Gratin of scallops

1 Lb scallops
2 tablespoon butter
1/2 cup chopped onion
1 1/2 cup chopped celery
1 cup sliced mushrooms
1 cup green peppers chopped
1/4 cup butter
1/4 cup flour
1 teaspoon white pepper and salt
2 cups milk
1 cup bread crumbs
2 tablespoon melted butter
1/4 cup cheddar cheese grated
paprika
STEP 1 Put the scallops on a dish and sprinkle with salt. STEP 2 Melt the butter in a pan and saute the celery, mushrooms and green peppers 10 minutes. Step 3 Prepare a white sauce with butter, flour, milk, salt and the white pepper. STEP 4 When the sauce is thickened, add the scallops and vegetables. Mix well. STEP 5 Pour in a buttered skillet. Add the bread crumbs. Add the cheese. Baste with melted butter. STEP 6 Sprinkle with paprika (to taste). Put in the oven 20 minutes at 375 degrees F.
