NY style bagels with maple syrup and bacon baked right in

1 package of active dry yeast {I use Red Star Platinum}
3 1/2 cups of Bread flour {I use King Arthur}
1 1/2 tsp salt
1/4 cup maple syrup
1 1/4 cups of warm water {about 120 degrees}
4 slices of cooked bacon {diced}

8 small taro roots
water
salt
1 cup yogurt, mixed with enough water to submerge roots (add salt)

  1. Wash the taro roots well.
  2. Slightly cut a slit into each root, but not big enough to split the root into two pieces. This will allow the water and marinade to go into the taro root
