Orchard Apple Crisp

128

My favorite part of fall is definitely going to pick apples from the orchard! Of course, this means bringing home over 50 apples...so what better dish to make than an apple crisp?

Filling:
10 cups apples
1/2 cup white sugar
1/2 cup brown sugar
2 tablespoons flour
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1/2 teaspoon allspice
1 tablespoon vanilla
2 tablespoons cherry juice

Crust:
2 cups old fashioned oats
2 cups flour
2 cups brown sugar
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1 tablespoon cinnamon
1 cup butter, melted
1. Wash and thinly slice apples. 2. Mix vanilla and juice in with the apples (I used cherry juice, but you could use any favorite!). 3. Mix dry ingredients for filling in a separate bowl. Combine with apples. Set aside. 4. Mix dry ingredients for crust. Add melted butter and mix. 5. Press half of the crust mixture into a 9x13 inch pan. *In the shown pictures, I made several smaller apple crisps rather than all in one pan. 6. Layer with apples and press the remaining crust on top. 7. Bake at 350 degrees Fahrenheit for 1 hour, or until a knife goes into the apples with no "crunch." If the top starts browning too much, cover with tin foil. 8. Serve warm...and alone or with a scoops of vanilla ice cream!
