2 lbs ground beef ( I use 90% lean )
1 onion ( finely diced )
1 1/2 tsp minced garlic
1 28 ounce can diced tomatoes ( do not drain )
3 8 ounce cans tomato sauce
3/4 cup beef broth
2 tbsp chili powder
2 tsp ground cumin
2 tsp smoked paprika
2 tsp cocoa powder
1 tsp granulated sugar
1 1/2 tsp salt ( divided use )
1/2 tsp pepper
2 15 ounce cans dark red kidney beans ( drained and rinsed )
cheese, sour cream and green onions for serving
