Lemon Cake with Lemon Syrup & Sugar Glaze

This soft, slightly dense cake is bursting with lemon flavour! It has a layer of homemade lemon syrup under the sugar glaze that really gives it a little extra bit of lemon zing!

1 C unsalted butter, softened
2 C granulated (white) sugar
4 eggs, room temperature
1/3 C lemon zest (from about 4 lemons)
3 C all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1 tsp salt
1/4 C fresh squeezed lemon juice
3/4 C buttermilk (room temperature)
1 tsp vanilla extract

1/4 C granulated (white) sugar
1/4 C fresh squeezed lemon juice

1-1/2 C icing sugar (confectioner\'s sugar)
2 tsp milk
1/2 tsp vanilla extract
