1/2 cup warm water
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup + 1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3 1/2 cups flour
I packet yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp )
1/4 cup butter softened (optional)
1/2 cup milk
1 egg
1/3 cup butter
1/3 cup + 1 tsp sugar
1 tsp salt
3 1/2 cups flour
I packet yeast (or 2 1/4 tsp )
1/4 cup butter softened (optional)
I use my KitchenAid mixer and the paddle hook to make the dough. In mixing bowl add warm water, yeast and 1 tsp sugar. Let poof for about 10 minutes. While the yeast mixture is working heat in a saucepan the milk and 1/3 cup butter, heat until milk is scalded. Then take off heat and let butter continue to melt. In mixing bowl with yeast mixture add egg, salt, and sugar. Mix on slow speed. Alternating add warm milk and flour. You will see the dough get 'stretchy' this is the desired effect. When the dough is all mixed together switch to kneading hook. Knead dough on low speed for about 5 minutes or until smooth.
Place dough in a greased glass bowl and cover with kitchen towel. Let rise for 2 hours or until double. Punch down. You have two options: 1) you can form the dough into rolls and place on a cookie sheet lined with parchment, 2) or you can cut the dough in half, take each half roll out to a 12 inch circle, spread the softened butter on top, then use a pizza roller to slice into 8 wedges. Roll each wedge like a crescent roll then place on parchment lined cookie sheet. Either way you let the rolls rise for 1 hour. Bake 350 degrees for 12-15 minutes.
