Rolling the dough-balls in sugar results in a "crackled" look. Use red or green sugar for rolling at the holidays!

3/4 c. margarine
1 c. sugar
1/4 c. molasses
1 egg
2 c. flour
2 tsp. baking soda
1 tsp. cinnamon
1/2 tsp. ground cloves
1/2 tsp. ground ginger
1/2 tsp salt
1 c. sugar

Melt margarine & cool a little. Add sugar, molasses, and egg. Beat well.
Add dry ingredients, and mix until incorporated completely.
Chill.
Form into 1" balls and roll in granulated sugar.
