Balsamic Strawberry Shortcake Trifles with Basil-Infused Whipped Cream

Strawberries and balsamic vinegar are a match made in heaven. Add basil to the mix and it really kicks things up a notch! I combine all these flavors along with shortcake to make a perfect dessert. I found really cute mini trifle cups on Amazon to make this wonderful dessert into a trifle. What a perfect summer dessert!

For the whipped cream:

1 pint heavy cream

15 large basil leaves, chopped

3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar

For the shortcakes:

2 cups flour

4 teaspoons baking powder

3/4 teaspoon salt

1 1/2 tablespoons sugar

1/4 cup butter, room temperature

3/4 cup half and half

Melted butter to brush shortcakes

For the berries:

2 pints strawberries, rinsed and sliced

1 1/2 tablespoons balsamic vinegar

3 tablespoons sugar

1 pint blueberries for the top

For the whipped cream:

1 pint heavy cream

15 large basil leaves, chopped

3 tablespoons confectioners’ sugar
