Buttermilk Custards

I recently resurrected this recipe from my file. I'd forgotten how quick, easy and delicious this is. The buttermilk adds just enough tang to keep this from becoming too rich. This is a no bake custard, perfect for these hot summer days.

1 packet of unflavored gelatin
6 tablespoons cold water
3/4 cup sugar
1 pound berries(strawberries hulled and quartered,blackberries or raspberries or a combination)
1 1/2 cups heavy cream
1 cup low-fat buttermilk
1 teaspoon pure vanilla extract
