Candy Cane Layer Cake

Layers of cake, peppermint buttercream and candy canes make this the ultimate Christmas dessert for any Candy Cane lover!

For the cake:
1 and ¾ sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
1 and ½ cups caster sugar
4 large eggs
1tbsp peppermint extract
3 cups plain flour
1 and ½tbsp baking powder
Pinch of salt
½ cup milk
For the frosting:
3 sticks unsalted butter, at room temperature
3 and ½ cups powdered sugar, sifted
1tbsp peppermint extract
Pinch of salt
1-2tbsp milk
8-12 crushed candy canes to press around the bottom of the cake and to sprinkle in between the layers, if desired. You will need 12 to sprinkle candy canes between the layers.
