This Caramel Apple Crisp is one of my favorite fall desserts, and I know you will love it too!

For the filling
1 1/2 pounds Macintosh apples, (peeled, cored, and sliced)
1 teaspoon orange zest
1 teaspoon lemon zest
1 tablespoon fresh lemon juice
1/4 cup light brown sugar
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon ground nutmeg
2 tablespoons cornstarch or tapioca flour
1/2 cup caramel pieces, for dairy free use dairy-free caramels like Cocomels

For the topping
3/4 cup all purpose flour, or 3/4 cup gluten free flour PLUS 1/2 teaspoon xanthan gum
1/3 cup granulated sugar
1/3 cup light brown sugar
1/4 teaspoon fine sea salt
1/2 cup old fashioned oats, or gluten free oats for gluten free
1/2 cup butter, cold and cubed (use palm shortening for dairy free)
