Cuban Black Beans: Frijoles Negros Using the Rice Cooker

Black beans Frijoles negros , howver you call it, it is serious business in Cuban culture. Cuban black beans over a mound of white rice was a childhood staple in our food traditions growing up. I’m happy to say, they are one of my kids’ favorite foods too. I don’t even know what I’d do if they didn’t like beans!

1lb dried black beans

10 cups water

Olive oil

1 large onion, chopped

1 green bell pepper, chopped

4 cloves garlic, crushed

Salt/Pepper

Oregano

Sugar

Cumin, ground

Bay leaf

2 tablespoons vinegar
