1 stick (1/2 cup) butter
1 large egg
1½ cups sugar
3 tablespoons light Karo syrup
¼ cup water
1 tablespoon Mexican vanilla
optional: ½ teaspoon ground cinnamon
optional: ½ teaspoon ground nutmeg
