I found a cake recipe while browsing the internet and knew that I had to give it a whirl this holiday season. Cream cheese frosting sounded like the perfect compliment to gingerbread and I got to baking. This cake is an easy recipe to throw in the oven fast. Perfect for times when you get the phone call that visitors are coming over and you start that scramble to figure out what you can serve in a pinch.

1/3 cup sugar
1/4 cup butter, softened
1/4 cup molasses
1 egg
1 t vanilla extract
1.5 cups all-purpose flour
2 t ground ginger
1/2 t baking soda
1/4 t ground nutmeg
1/8 t salt
1/8 t ground cloves
2/3 cup milk

4 oz. cream cheese, softened
1 t vanilla extract
