A recipe that my mother in law taught me, I thought she made the best barbecue. My side of the family can not get over not cooking the hamburger before putting this together but this is the secret to the great texture that comes from not doing that. Trust me, it gets cooked.
6
1 pound lean hamburger
1 medium onion
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 cup water
1/2 cup chopped celery
salt and red pepper to taste
1 medium onion
2 tablespoons butter
2 tablespoons vinegar
2 tablespoons brown sugar
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup ketchup
3 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1/2 tablespoon prepared mustard
1 cup water
1/2 cup chopped celery
salt and red pepper to taste
Brown onion in butter, add other ingredients. Simmer for at least 30 minutes uncovered for it to thicken.
My family sometimes add pickle relish and cheese on these sandwiches.
