Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cookies

131

Our 12 year old made these this afternoon with no help whatsoever, and they were delicious! You can change out the chocolate chips for Smarties or something fancier if you like, or you can leave them out if you prefer your oatmeal cookies unadulterated. Nevertheless, they are soft and chewy and great for the lunchbox.

24
1/2 cup butter (please use real butter...otherwise it just is not the same.)
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup white sugar
1 egg
1/4 cup water
1 tsp vanilla
1 cup flour
1/2 tsp baking powder
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
3/4 tsp cinnamon
1/4 tsp cloves
2 cups rolled oats
1 cup chocolate chips or other treats
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Cream butter and both sugars until fluffy. Beat in egg, water and vanilla. Stir in flour, baking powder and soda, salt , spices and oats. Stir in chocolate chips. Drop by heaping spoonfuls onto greased cookie sheets. Bake 10-12 minutes. Remove from pan and cool on wire rack. Makes 3 dozen smaller cookies or 2 dozen large ones.
