Pioneer Cream Scones with Chopped Plums and Orange Zest

These scones are my copy-cat version of some scones we had while at a historic little shop at Capital Reef National Park. They come pretty close to the real recipe!

1 3/4 cups flour
2 1/2 teaspoons baking powder
3 tablespoons sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt
6 tablespoons cold unsalted butter cut into 1/2-inch cubes
2 teaspoons grated orange zest
1/3 cup chopped plums
1 egg
4 tablespoons heavy cream
