Pocket gyros with Tzatziki

I love gyros but where I live it is hard to find a good one. This recipe lets me make them at home and they are quite tasty.

1 1/2 pound lean ground beef
1 1/2 teaspoons onion powder
2 large cloves garlic, finely minced
1/4 cup chopped fresh oregano
1 tablespoon fresh thyme sprigs, crushed
3/4 teaspoon salt
1 1/2 teaspoons freshly ground pepper
8 6-inch pita rounds in half
3 medium tomatoes, chopped
1 large onion, sliced thin

Tzatziki sauce:
1 cup plain yogurt
1/4 cup chopped cucumber
1/2 teaspoon onion powder
1 clove garlic, minced
2 teaspoons olive oil
1/4 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
Combine ground beef, onion powder, garlic, oregano, thyme, salt and pepper in a large bowl, stir well. Shape meat mixture into a loaf and place in a 9x5 inch loaf pan. Bake at 350 degrees for 1 1/2 hours. Remove from pan and let cool. Slice meat into 1/4 inch slices. Fry in pan to warm slices. Fill pita bread round halves with meat slices. Top with chopped tomato, sliced onion and tzatziki sauce. Tzatziki sauce: Combine all ingredients in a medium bowl, stir well. Cover and chill well.
