Raw Banana – Potato – Radish side dish

The three key ingredients in this dish felt as if they did not go together. I wanted to bond them with flavours to balance out the strong-ness in radish, with the starchy-ness of raw banana + potatoes. The panch phoron mixture used in Bengali cuisines turned out to be the perfect blend, pleasantly surprising even me! The slightly bitter taste of fenugreek helped add that oomph to the banana-potatoes, while the slight sweetness of fennel seeds toned down the radish flavour just a little bit.

1-2 raw bananas (the green ones)
1-2 medium potatoes
1 radish
1-2 tsp powder of red chillies
1 tsp panch phoron (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Panch_phoron)
2 tsp oil
Cilantro for garnishing
Salt to taste
Water for cooking
Chop potatoes and radish into small cubes. Smear a little bit of cooking oil on your hands and the knife and chop the raw bananas into cubes as well. The oil will help in not making your fingers and knife...
