Saffron Hot Cross Buns

Sweet and buttery brioche is the base for these delicious Easter buns.

1/2 cup mixed, dried fruit
1/2 cup golden raisins
1/4 cup citron
1/4 cup limoncello
2 teaspoons dry yeast
1 cup warm milk
pinch of saffron
1/2 cup honey
4 large egg yolks
4 tablespoons butter
4 to 5 cups bread flour
1 teaspoon salt
1 teaspoon cinnamon
1/4 teaspoon allspice
1/8 teaspoon cloves
1/8 teaspoon nutmeg
1 whole egg white
1 1/2 - 2 cups powdered sugar

8 small taro roots
water
salt
1 cup yogurt, mixed with enough water to submerge roots (add salt)

  1. Wash the taro roots well.
  2. Slightly cut a slit into each root, but not big enough to split the root into two pieces. This will allow the water and marinade to go into the taro root
