In the 1940's ladies loved to lunch at the Schraffts restaurant and candy shop. New Yorker's have fond memories of the establishment. One quote I found quite humorous, was by the great grand son of the founder, Frank M Shcattuck who said, “Everyone wore hats and handmade suits. And if you were a lady, it was safe to sit at the soda fountain and drink gin from a teacup.” What a hoot! So I gave these cookies a whirl, tweaked it a bit and the result is a fantastic c

2 tablespoons salted sweet cream Butter - room temperature
3/4 cup vegetable shortening
1 1/4 cups packed dark brown sugar
1 egg
2 tablespoons nonfat dry milk
1 tablespoon vanilla

1 3/4 cups flour
1/2 teaspoon baking soda
1/2 teaspoon salt
