Slow Cooker Chicken Tikka Masala

A slow cooker version of a classic Indian dish.

4-5 large boneless skinless chicken breasts, cut into 1-inch pieces
4 tablespoons butter
1 medium onion, chopped
4 cloves garlic, minced
2 tablespoons fresh ginger, minced
2 tablespoons Garam masala
1 tablespoon cumin
2 teaspoons paprika
1/2 teaspoon coriander
1 teaspoon turmeric
1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
1-2 teaspoons salt, to taste
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 (28 oz.) can crushed tomatoes
1 1/2 cups plain yogurt
1/4 cup lemon juice
1 cup heavy cream
3 tablespoons cornstarch
Chopped cilantro, for garnish (optional)
Rice or Naan Bread (optional)
