Smoky Persimmon Cranberry Compote

Cumin pairs nicely with sweet persimmon and tangy cranberries to make a versatile compote that goes well on everything from cream cheese to chicken and fish.

1 1/2 cups fresh cranberries

1-2 teaspoons finely minced jalapeño pepper

1/3 cup water

3 tablespoons honey

1/4 teaspoon cumin

1/4 teaspoon cinnamon

1/8 teaspoon cardamom

pinch ground cloves

1 diced Fuyu persimmon (about 1/2 cup)
