Spiced Apple Cookies

A hint of muffin, a dash of cookie, with an aroma of pie!

1/4 cup shortening
1/4 cup unsalted butter
1 -1/3 cup packed brown sugar
2 eggs
1 Tablespoon vanilla
2 cups flour, sifted
3/4 cup oats
1/2 teaspoon soda
1/2 teaspoon baking powder
1 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons cinnamon
1/2 teaspoon cloves
1/4 teaspoon nutmeg
3/4 cup chopped pecans
1 cup craisens
2 cups chopped apples
1/4 cup milk

Frosting:
1-1/2 cup powdered sugar
1 Tablespoon butter
1 Teaspoon vanilla
3 Tablespoons milk
1. Toss together the flour, oats, soda, baking powder, salt, and spices 2. In a separate bowl, cream the butter and brown sugar until smooth. Add the eggs and vanilla. 3. Stir in half of the dry mixture. Add the nuts, apples, and craisens until mostly combined. 4. Stir in the remaining dry ingredients and milk. 5. Refrigerate for one hour. Meanwhile, preheat oven to 350 degrees. 6. Cover a cookie sheet with parchment paper. Using a cookie scoop, drop the dough on the cookie sheet and bake for 15 minutes. 7. Allow to cool briefly, frosting while still warm. 8. Allow to cool completely before storing. Frosting: 1. Cream the powdered sugar, butter, and vanilla until smooth. 2. Add the milk. Use additional milk if needed to create a spreading consistency.
