Spiced Stone Fruit Streusel Coffee Cake with Almonds

This streusel coffee cake recipe isn't as quick to make as others, but in return it is the best cake ever. Made with almonds, warm spices and yogurt to keep it moist, topped with stone fruit (such as peaches, plums and apricots) and a mega load of an easy crumb topping, you'll be the star of any potluck, backyard barbecue or picnic. If you make it ahead and let it stand overnight, it will taste even better! A simple homemade old fashioned summer treat.

1 cup all purpose flour
1/4 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup cold butter

2/3 cup ground almonds

14 tbsp butter
1 cup caster sugar
3 large eggs at room temperature
1 tsp ground cardamom
1/2 tsp ground star anise
1 ground tonka bean OR a scraped vanilla bean
remaining cake ingredients
2/3 cup natural full fat yogurt I used sheep's milk
1 handful red currants optional
