If you are headed to a Summer cookout or gathering… take this dish. People will thank you and ask for the recipe.

3 cans red beans, divided
1 smoked ham hock
1 & 1/2 cups water
2 tsp dried minced onion
1/2 teaspoon garlic salt
1/2 teaspoon red pepper flakes
3 tsp hot sauce – optional {such as Crystal}
6 cups cooked white rice for serving.

Pour 2 cans of beans into a dutch oven or saucepan and add all ingredients except the hot sauce and rice
Simmer on medium heat for an hour, turning the ham hock about half way through.
