The British are known for their Sunday roast, a tradition that has been going on for hundreds of years. Even the French call the Brits ‘Rosbifs’ - (Roast Beef). The Yeoman Of The Guard (the Royal body guard of the Crown Jewels at the Tower of London) has been known as Beefeaters since the 15th century, because they were fed well, compared to the peasants of those days. British beef used to be cooked over the fire for Sunday lunch; it was ready just as everyone arrived home from church services.
