Almond Green Beans with Caramelized Onions

I love green beans, but hate green bean casserole. With the holidays coming I decided to try making this dish because I love all the ingredients in it and the green beans aren’t overpowered by cream of whatever you add to the casserole! My kids will eat this too and just pick out the onions since they aren’t fans… yet.

1 lb green beans, cleaned and trimmed
1/4 c skin on sliced raw almonds
1 T butter
2 T EVOO
1 large onions, sliced thin
1 T chopped fresh thyme leaves
Freshly ground black pepper
salt and pepper to taste

Boil the green beans covered in water for about 5 minutes. Drain the beans and then run them under some cold water to stop them from cooking. Set aside in another bowl.
