Sweet little cherry thumbprints with vanilla filling and a little Hershey Kiss!

½ cup butter, softened
1 cup sugar
1 egg
1 ½ teaspoons vanilla extract
2 cups flour
¼ teaspoon baking soda
¼ teaspoon salt
2 tablespoons milk
1/3 cup chopped Maraschino cherries

For the filling
¾ cup powdered sugar
2 tablespoons butter
3 tablespoons milk
½ teaspoon vanilla extract
