Delicious marinated chicken, with perfectly crispy fried coating!

2 to 2 1/2 pounds chicken drumsticks
For the marinade:
3 lemons, halved
2 Tablespoons crushed bay leaves (or use 12 bay leaves)
1 cup chopped fresh parsley
1 Tablespoon dried thyme
1/4 cup honey
2 Tablespoons minced garlic
2 Tablespoons black peppercorns
3/4 cup kosher salt
1 gallon water
For the coating:
3 cups all-purpose flour, divided
2 Tablespoons garlic powder, divided
2 Tablespoons onion powder, divided
2 teaspoons paprika, divided
2 teaspoons kosher salt
1 teaspoon black pepper, divided
2 cups + 3 Tablespoons buttermilk, divided
For frying:
1 quart + canola oil
