Delicious Swiss Steak

My husbands Grandmother made this dish often and we all loved it. We like to serve it with rice underneath to catch all the wonderful sauce, we would hate to waste a drop!

1 tablespoon dry mustard
1/2 cup flour
2 teaspoons salt
1 tablespoons oil
1 1/2 pound round steak, 1 inch thick
1 medium onion, sliced thin
3 carrots, shredded, or sliced
1 1/2 cups canned tomatoes
2 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
3 tablespoons brown sugar
salt, to taste
Mix together mustard, flour and salt. Pound dry mixture into steak covering both sides. (I use the side of a salad plate to pound the seasoning in, of course you can use a meat mallet, if you have one.) Brown on both sides in two tablespoons oil. Place meat in a glass baking dish. Cover meat with onions, tomatoes and carrots. Sprinkle with Worcestershire sauce, salt and brown sugar over all. Bake at 325 degrees for 2 hours.
