Easy cheesy baked ziti

This recipe takes a little time, but it is easy and delicious! I always make this for guests and have never had anyone NOT rave about it! It's like an easy version of lasagna!!! Great for making huge portions for parties, potlucks and any dinner get togethers.

1 lb. ziti pasta (penne works too!)
1 pkg. sweet Italian sausages
1 lb. ground beef
2 tbsp. olive oil
1 tbsp. garlic powder
1 tsp. each of salt and pepper
1-2 tbsp. minced garlic
1 onion chopped (optional)
2 jars your choice of spaghetti sauce
1 medium container of sour cream
A dozen slices of provolone cheese (I use deli cheese)
1 lb. mozzarella cheese, sliced thick (usually 8-10 slices)
1 c. Grated Parmesan cheese
Salt and pepper to taste (depending on the spices and saltiness of your spaghetti sauce)
Cook sausages with preferred method. I cook them in the oven on 350 for about 25 mins (if cooking on the stove top, be sure to preheat the oven to 350 anyway!) flipping half way through. When cool, cut into small chunks and set aside. Leave the oven on, you will need it again soon! Saute garlic on medium heat in 2tbsp. of olive oil and add onions if using. Brown and season your ground beef (in the same pan) with salt and pepper and garlic powder. Pour spaghetti sauce into a large saucepan and add sausage, beef, onion and garlic; stir and heat over med-low heat stirring occasionally. When it begins to bubble turn to low and cover until you are ready to add it to the dish. While your sauce is heating up, boil pasta according to directions on the package: you want it done, but al dente. Slice up your cheese and set it aside. When your pasta is done, drain and pour half of it into a greased 9x13 or larger casserole dish. Top with the sliced provolone cheese. Place dollops of sour cream on top of the provolone slices making sure its plentiful. Pour half of your sauce on top, then put the rest of your pasta in. Lay slices of mozzarella close together over the pasta and top with the remaining sauce. Finish it off by topping with Parmesan cheese. Pop it in the oven and bake for 30 minutes. Allow to sit about 5 mins before serving. I recommend serving it woth garlic bread.Yum! Enjoy!
