Hamburger Stew

An inexpensive meal to satisfy every taste, made with ingredients common to most every household.

2 pounds lean ground beef
6 ounces of onions diced
8 ounces of carrots sliced thin
1/2 pound mushrooms sliced thin
4 ounces of parsnip cubed
16 ounces of diced tomatoes
4 ounces of celery sliced thin
1 1/4 pounds of potatoes cubed
3 packets of powdered beef gravy mix
40 ounces of water
1 teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, garlic salt and thyme
In a skillet cook the ground beef until browned and then drain the grease. Place the ground beef and all of the remaining ingredients except for the gravy mix into a large soup pot, cover and cook on medium heat for 1 1/2 hours stirring occasionally. Next add the gravy mix and follow the directions on the packets to allow the gravy to thicken before serving.
