Old Fashioned Biscuits

Buttery goodness with a pinch of sweetness. This biscuit recipe is a great base recipe. I use these biscuits for strawberry shortcake, biscuits and gravy and base for a variety of flavored scones. Fun to make. Reminds me of something you would make with grandma.

2 cups all-purpose flour
1/4 cup granulated sugar
2 tsp baking powder
1 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 cup unsalted butter, cold, cut into small bits
1 large egg, lightly beaten
1/4 cup milk ( I used 1%)
5 tablespoons heavy cream
Additional whipping cream for brushing biscuits (about 1 tablespoon)
Additional granulated sugar, for sprinkling (1 tablespoon) for shortcake
