Plum Dumplings

This recipe works great for a big harvest of Italian Prune Plums. It\'s great to make a hundred of these up and freeze them for future use. Although this originally came from Yugoslavia and was a meal, we find this to be too sweet and makes a delicious dessert. I adapted this recipe from allrecipes.com to work for me in the freezer and used my own version of caramel sauce to top it.

100 Italian Prune Plums
3/4 cup sugar
8 large potatoes, peeled and quartered
2 teaspoons salt
12 egg yolks
1/2 cup shortening or butter, softened
Dough:
10 cups all-purpose flour
1 tablespoon and 1 teaspoon sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
Sauce (for only 25 dumplings at a time):
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups brown sugar
