Roasted Rhubarb Barbecue Sauce

Roasted, pureed rhubarb is the base for this sweet and tangy barbecue sauce.

4 cups coarsely chopped rhubarb
3 cloves garlic
1 cup water (plus more, as needed)
3 tablespoons balsamic vinegar
1/2 cup brown sugar
1/4 cup ketchup
1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
1 tablespoon chili powder
1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
Dash of cayenne pepper
Salt and black pepper, to taste
