THE MOST AMAZING Cut Out Sugar Cookies

This is the ONLY recipe I use to make our annual Christmas cut out sugar cookies. They are SOOO good!!

1 ½ c. powdered sugar
1 c. margarine or butter, softened
1 egg
1 tsp. Vanilla
½ tsp. Almond extract
2 ½ c. all purpose flour
1 tsp. Baking soda
1 tsp. Cream of tartar
Granulated sugar

FROSTING:
3 c. powdered sugar
1/3 c. butter, softened
1 1/2 tsp. vanilla
2 T. milk (approximately)
Mix powdered sugar, margarine, egg, vanilla and almond extract. Mix in flour, baking soda and cream of tartar. Divide dough into quarters. Then take ½ of that dough and roll out onto a sheet of parchment paper, with the top layer being wax paper. Refrigerate for at least ½ hour. Keep rolling out all the dough in the same fashion and refrigerating the separate layers of dough on a flat cookie sheet. Heat oven to 375?. After the dough has chilled and is hardened, take off the top layer of wax paper. Cut out your desired shapes with cookie cutters. Leave the shapes where they are at and just remove the extra dough around each shapes. You will bake the cookie right on the parchment paper. Just slide a cookie sheet underneath (sprinkle with a little granulated sugar) and put in the oven for the required baking time. Bake until edges are light brown for 7-8 minutes. For frosting, mix sugar and butter together. Stir in vanilla and milk; beat until frosting is smooth and of spreading consistency. You may have to add more milk. Makes 5 dozen cookies.
