Basil and Sweet Pea Soup

This sweet pea soup was a personal favorite of mine growing up. I can’t remember how many times I begged my mom to make this for me as a kid. It’s simple, sweet and savory, and delicious.

1/4 c. butter (not margarine)
1/4 c. flour
3 cups milk
1 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. pepper
1 Tbsp finely chopped fresh basil (or 1 tsp. dried basil)
1 (14oz) can sweet peas, drained
