This pie is filled with protein as it’s main ingredients are beef and beans. The flavor comes from the onions, green peppers and spices included within this tasty dish. The corn meal pastry on top seals the flavors and is what makes it a pie.

Ingredients {meat filling} :
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1 tbsp shortening
2 cups tomatoes
1 tsp salt
3 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 1/2 canned red kidney beans
Ingredients {corn meal pastry}:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup corn meal
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
4 Tblsp cold water
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1 tbsp shortening
2 cups tomatoes
1 tsp salt
3 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper

2 1/2 canned red kidney beans
Ingredients {corn meal pastry}:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup corn meal
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
4 Tblsp cold water
1. Brown meat, onions and green pepper in shortening.
2. Add tomatoes and seasonings.
3. Cool until thickened {about 10-15 minutes}
4. Add kidney beans and heat thoroughly.
5. Turn into a 1 1/2 quart...
