Chili Con Carne Pie

This pie is filled with protein as it’s main ingredients are beef and beans. The flavor comes from the onions, green peppers and spices included within this tasty dish. The corn meal pastry on top seals the flavors and is what makes it a pie.

Ingredients {meat filling} :
1 lb ground beef or turkey
1/2 cup chopped onion
1/3 cup chopped green pepper
1 tbsp shortening
2 cups tomatoes
1 tsp salt
3 tsp chili powder
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
1/4 tsp ground black pepper
2 1/2 canned red kidney beans
Ingredients {corn meal pastry}:
1 cup flour
1/2 cup corn meal
3/4 tsp salt
1/2 cup shortening
4 Tblsp cold water

Marinated Taro Root

8 small taro roots
water
salt
1 cup yogurt, mixed with enough water to submerge roots (add salt)

  1. Wash the taro roots well.
  2. Slightly cut a slit into each root, but not big enough to split the root into two pieces. This will allow the water and marinade to go into the taro root
