Cottage (not shepherds) pie

Cottage pie is made with ground beef, different that the original shepherd's pie that is made with ground lamb.

2 tablespoons olive oil
2lb ground beef
Salt and ground black pepper
3 medium onions, chopped
3 medium carrot, small diced
1 cup of frozen peas
2 garlic cloves, grated
1 teaspoon fresh thyme
2 tomatoes, chopped
3 tablespoons of tomato paste
1 1/3 cup of Guinness
5 tablespoons Worcestershire sauce
1 1/4 cup of beef stock


For the potatoes

Ingredients
2lb of gold potatoes (Yukon or Dutch) cut into 2 inch cubes
3 tablespoons unsalted butter
1 medium turnip or rutabaga cut into 2inch cubes
