The first time I had these I was about 9 or 10 years old and my mother’s friend made them. It’s just one of those things that stays with you over the years, maybe it was because of the silly name. Who knows. My mother-in-law made them during one of our Christmas visits to Ohio. Why I've never thought to make them until now is beyond me.

12 large cabbage leaves
1+1/4 pounds ground beef
1/4 pound pork sausage
1/2 cup white rice
1 large egg
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon sweet basil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1+1/2 tablespoons onion grated
1+1/2 tablespoons celery chopped
1/4 cup carrots shredded
1/2 cup cabbage raw, shredded
2 cans (8 ounce) tomato sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
1+1/4 pounds ground beef
1/4 pound pork sausage
1/2 cup white rice
1 large egg
1/3 cup milk
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon black pepper
1/2 teaspoon sweet basil
1 teaspoon garlic powder
1 tablespoon paprika
1+1/2 tablespoons onion grated
1+1/2 tablespoons celery chopped
1/4 cup carrots shredded
1/2 cup cabbage raw, shredded
2 cans (8 ounce) tomato sauce
1 tablespoon brown sugar
Preheat oven to 350F.
Cut 12 large leaves off of cabbage head, cover leaves with boiling water, let stand until leaves are limp (2-3 minutes); then drain.
