Split peas soup

Split peas are in the same family as beans and lentils. Their nutritional value is high as they are rich in protein and dietary fiber. If you are on a diet this is a perfect midday meal. Here in Greece we call them Fava. It’s an excellent appetizer and you will find it in every Greek tavern. Together with grilled octopus and ouzo (Greek aperitif) is a delicacy that smells summer.

250gr yellow split peas
2 large onions
1 teaspoon tomato paste
1 clove garlic
Olive oil
Salt
Pepper
