Versatile Italian Style Tomato Sauce

There are many variations of a homemade, Italian style tomato pasta sauce. But for those of you who may be beginners at making home made sauces or would like to try a different recipe, this is the one that works for me. Like most Italian tomato sauces, this is a versatile ingredient that can be used as part of your bolognaise, lasagne or as a simple sauce to accompany a pasta dish. Serves Four.

1x 400g of canned, plum tomatoes
Pinch of salt
1 to 2 cloves of garlic, grated or roughly chopped
1/2 small or medium onion, roughly chopped
Half of a grated carrot
1 tablespoon of red wine
1 generous or 1 and a half tablespoons of tomato purée
1 heaped tablespoon of fresh basil
1 heaped tablespoon of flat leaf parsley
Generous squirt of lemon juice
