Picadillo (Cuban Style Hash)

A favorite meal in every Cuban household

2 tbsp. olive oil
1 bell pepper, diced
1 onion, chopped
4 cloves of garlic, minced
1 carrot, grated or diced (optional)
2 lbs. lean ground beef
2/3 cup tomato sauce
1 tbsp. ketchup
1 tsp. cumin
1 tsp. oregano
1 tsp. salt
pepper (to taste)
1/2 cup Spanish olives stuffed with pimientos
1/3 cup raisins, optional
1. Sauté the chopped onion, bell pepper, carrot (optional) in olive oil over medium heat until the vegetables are tender. 2. Stir in the garlic, ground beef, cumin, oregano, and cook until the meat is brown (about 5 minutes). 3. Add the tomato sauce and ketchup. Lower the heat to low, cover, and simmer for about 15 minutes. 4. Add the olives, raisins (optional), salt and pepper, and simmer for 5 more minutes. 5. Serve hot over white rice and enjoy.
