Easy Chicken Cacciatore

This has been a family favorite for many years. Not quite authentic, but it sure is tasty. We love it served with rice or pasta.

2 pounds chicken parts
2 tablespoons shortening
1 can condensed tomato soup
1/4 cup water
1/4 cup dry red wine, or 1 tablespoon vinegar
2 large cloves garlic, minced
1 teaspoon oregano, crushed
1 medium green pepper, cut into strips
1/2 cup chopped onions
In large skillet, brown chicken in shortening; pour off fat. Add remaining ingredients. Cover and cook over low heat 45 minutes; stir now and then. Uncover; cook until sauce thickens.
